Plot: In this crime drama based on Cormac McCarthy's book, all hell breaks lose when a hunter (Brolin) becomes the target of a serial killer (Bardem) after finding a treasure trove of drugs and cash.

No Country for Old Men: synopsis
When Llewellyn Moss comes upon a corpse-strewn drug-deal-gone-wrong in the middle of the barren West Texas range, he takes the bag of cash he finds at the scene and soon draws the attention of the county sheriff investigating the crime. Sheriff Bell will become Llewellyn's best hope for survival, however, when he finds himself the object of a relentless pursuit by hired killer Anton Chigurh, a murderous sociopath.



DANIEL DAY-LEWIS There Will Be Blood

Before He Hit Oscar: The Irish citizen was a shy, boarding school student in Kent, England, who ran away from campus because he hated it so much.

But Enough About Him... "Judging by the stuff that's been said about me, it sounds as if I'm always dragged to the set in a straitjacket," Day-Lewis, 50, told the Sunday Express. "It's not my thing to engage in an orgy of self-promotion."



Including his nominations this year for Directing and Adapted Screenplay for NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, this is the sixth Academy Award nomination for Joel Coen. He was previously nominated for:

Including their nomination this year for Film Editing for NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, Ethan and Joel Coen have also received two nominations under the pseudonym Roderick Jaynes.

MARION COTILLARD La Vie en Rose
Oscar History: This was her first nomination.

2008 Scorecard: She already won a Golden Globe.

Before She Hit Oscar: A native of France, she began acting as a child in one of her father's plays.

Great Adventure: “This movie has been a succession of surprises since the beginning of the adventure," the 32-year-old told PEOPLE. "To get a Golden Globe is really something I can’t describe. I’m speechless.”



TILDA SWINTON Michael Clayton
Oscar History: This was Swinton's first time out for an Oscar.

2008 Scorecard: Swinton has scored four nominations, including the Golden Globe.
Before She Hit Oscar: The Brit, who attended school with Princess Diana, bet on horses semi-professionally and supported herself on the winnings for two years.

Just Getting Started: "I've always known that I would not really start my work until my forties," Swinton, 47, told L.A. Weekly. "That may be a self-fulfilling prophecy, but you ain't seen nothing yet. I'm just cranking up."



JAVIER BARDEM No Country for Old Men

Before He Hit Oscar: The Spaniard played rugby for the Spanish National Team.

Language Barrier: "It's like a corset that you have to live with," the Spanish-born actor, 38, told L.A.'s Daily News about English-language films. "But once you conquer it, you feel free in another way."
