Your guide to the best movie shows this month in Bahrain
Angels and Demons

Ron Howard’s latest Dan Brown adaption follows on where The Da Vinci Code left off as we rejoin Harvard Symbologist, Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) on his quest to unravel a catastrophic conspiracy. Having angered the Vatican with previous exploits, Langdon is summoned back to make amends and save Catholicism.

In contrast to its predecessor, Angels and Demons has a greater sense of urgency and drive but the plot just isn’t strong enough to keep up with the fast pace. It fails to engage and involve the viewer on almost every level.

Although marginally better than the Da Vinci Code, it still falls short of the mark and will most likely go straight to DVD. — Charlie

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Set at Washington’s Smithsonian Institution, the sequel to Night at the Museum follows Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) in his attempts to rescue his old exhibit friends from being put into storage.

Daley, who has now become a successful inventor, is drawn back into the mayhem unleashed by new and old characters including Pharaoh (Hank Azaria) and General Custer (Bill Hader). Director Shawn Levy’s attempts to make this movie accessible to both children and adults sadly fail to satisfy either and it falls apart almost as quickly as it begins.

That said, this is a clean family movie which, despite lacking a tangible storyline, just might be silly enough to make you giggle. — Chris

Terminator Salvation

He said he’d be back and he is, well, in a manner of speaking.

The franchise that made Schwarzenegger famous returns for another instalment of futuristic mayhem…without Schwarzenegger! Picking up from where the last movie left off, judgment day has occurred and humans are being terminated by, well, terminators. Salvation stars Christian Bale as John Connor, the leader of the human resistance against the machines.

John meets Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a former death row inmate, who has practically no memory of what happened to him. The two form an alliance to take down the Skynet hub and bring an end to the struggle. This is definitely one to watch. — Charlie
