The Bahrain Summer Festival 2010 will see top performers from across the world in action. There are special treats in store for children and adults alike.
A public message, top acts from around the world and loads of fun, Bahrain is all set to have quite a choc-a-bloc schedule this summer. The programme of events for the 2010 Summer Festival includes leading performances such as the Lord of the Dance, legendary Iranian singer Googoosh and the Fire
of Anatolia.
With the theme of the fest being ‘Children First’, kids get a lion’s share of events. They will have Barney and his friends entertaining them in the Little Big Club, an Arabic puppet show and a special BEN 10 performance.
The festival has Nakhool, a symbol for the palm tree, as its mascot. A special Nakhool tent will be erected at the seaside Malkiya Village which will have a series of children’s activities and workshops. The tent will be open throughout the festival with a daily movie, puppet show, pottery painting and live
radio competitions.
The Bahrain Summer Festival has also been interlinked with the motto, ‘I Love My Country, I Love My Village’, which makes it a model of cooperation between official state bodies while facilitating convergence of the state and the village in cultural life.
“Considering that the summer is a season for change and renewed activity, we chose to make it a festive season for both young and adult,” says culture and information minister Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, “The Nakhool symbol of the palm tree, with all that it has given to the people of Bahrain, comes back with a newly developed programme for children, but also makes sure that there is something for the rest of the family.”
The Summer Festival will take place from July 1-31 at the Cultural Hall, BIECC and at Al Malkiya (Nakhool tent). It has been organised by the Ministry of Culture and Information and supported by the Economic Development Board, Mumtalakat and Zain.
There will be both free and paid events during the festival; tickets can be purchased from Zain outlets.
