Global dance superstar Peggy Gou will perform live on the Saturday night of the event, adding to the atmosphere of the fourth round of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, which also marks F1’s 75th anniversary. Gou is the first musical act announced by BIC, with more to be revealed soon. In addition to the live music, visitors can enjoy a variety of captivating performances. The Birdman competition, which traces its origins back to Brighton, UK, where participants once leapt off a pier to see who could fly the furthest, has been a beloved tradition at the British Club since 1994. This year, the Llongsteppers are bringing even more excitement, with prizes for the best costume and the longest jump in both junior and adult categories. Participants can register starting at noon, with the first jump scheduled for 2pm. Attendees will pay a nominal BD1 fee to jump, and all proceeds will go to charity. Diplomatic Bonds and Beyond Newly appointed Royal Thai Ambassador to Bahrain, His Excellency Sumate Chulajata, shares his vision for diplomatic cooperation, cultural exchange and economic collaboration in an exclusive interview with Kristian Harrison. How has your experience in Bahrain been so far? I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here. My first impressions were the wonderful weather and the warmth of the Bahraini people. When I arrived in December, the Arabian Gulf Cup was underway, and I had the pleasure of watching the final match between Bahrain and Oman. Celebrating Bahrain’s victory with locals was a memorable introduction. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time, and how have you explored Bahraini culture? I enjoy playing golf and football and love travelling. Bahrain has offered me the perfect opportunity to explore a vibrant mix of tradition and modernity. I’ve visited the Manama Souq, Bahrain Bay and Block 338. During Ramadan, I attended several Majlises and Iftar gatherings and even fasted myself to better understand and appreciate the culture. How would you describe the current state of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Bahrain? I consider myself lucky to serve in Bahrain, given our strong diplomatic history since 1977. The relationship thrives at both the royal and people-to-people levels. Nearly every Bahraini I meet has visited Thailand, and there’s deep admiration for Bahrain among Thais. I would describe Bahrain as a dear friend of Thailand in the Middle East. How do you see these ties growing stronger during your tenure? I see enormous potential in food security cooperation. Thailand has a robust food industry, while Bahrain is a key Middle Eastern hub. Our strengths are complementary. Additionally, we aim to expand cooperation in agriculture, trade, investment, public health and energy – all of which align with Bahrain’s Vision 2030 goals. - His Excellency Sumate Chulajata bahrainthismonth.com | APRIL 2025 INTERVIEW 10

Are there any new trade or investment initiatives in the pipeline? Bahrain is an important economic partner, and both governments are working on enhancing bilateral trade, possibly through a formal agreement. We see potential in boosting Thai exports, especially food and halal products, to Bahrain and the wider GCC. We’re also exploring Fintech collaboration and other investment ventures, particularly in wellness, tourism and agriculture. What steps are being taken to enhance business partnerships, particularly in tourism, food exports and technology? These are priority sectors for the Embassy. At the Bahrain International Garden Show 2025, we organised the Thai Pavilion with 16 entities showcasing innovations in food and agriculture. We also support private sector initiatives connecting businesses from both sides. In tourism, we’re working on improving flight routes and promoting medical tourism. In food, Thai agri-food capabilities align with Bahrain’s food security agenda. For technology, Thailand’s digital growth and Bahrain’s regional tech leadership open doors for collaboration in Fintech and e-commerce. Are there any upcoming initiatives to promote tourism between the two countries? Thailand remains a top destination for Bahrainis for leisure, medical treatment and business. We’ve expanded visa-free travel for up to 60 days, and our global e-visa platform makes travel easier. We’re also promoting lesser-known destinations and wellness tourism. We’re strengthening partnerships with Bahraini travel agencies and influencers. Last May, we held a business matching event linking 30 Thai hospitality businesses with over 100 Bahraini travel agencies to showcase Thailand’s rich tourism offerings. What cultural exchange plans does the Thai Embassy have in Bahrain? Cultural understanding is the foundation of strong relations. Promoting Thai culture is a national priority, and we’re planning several events, including the Thai Festival. This flagship event will feature performances, crafts and culinary highlights. Culinary diplomacy is key too. We promote the ‘Thai Select’ label for restaurants maintaining high standards. We’re also fostering academic cooperation through exchange programmes, internships and visiting professors between Bahraini and Thai universities. These efforts aim to deepen mutual appreciation and people-topeople connections. How large is the Thai community in Bahrain, and what roles do they typically hold? Our community consists of around 3,000 people and continues to grow. Many have lived here for decades and are well-respected. Younger generations also bring valuable skills. Thai people are known for their hospitality, and many work in hospitality and wellness – hotels, spas, restaurants and airlines. We also have professionals in engineering, construction and services. The Embassy remains committed to supporting the Thai community through regular engagement and assistance, helping them feel connected to home. What message would you like to share with both the Thai community and the Bahraini people? I’m deeply grateful for the warm welcome I’ve received – it has made me feel at home. To the Thai community, thank you for strengthening our bilateral bonds. The Embassy is always here for you. To the Bahraini people, I’m honoured to serve as Ambassador and build upon our shared friendship, one rooted not just in diplomacy but mutual respect and cultural understanding. AI-powered platforms are revolutionising traditional teaching methods by making education more interactive, adaptive and personalised. While its benefits are undeniable, the increasing reliance on AI in schools also comes with challenges that must be carefully managed. One of the most significant contributions of AI in education is personalised learning. AI-driven platforms use data analysis to understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses, creating customised learning paths. Adaptive learning software, such as AI-powered tutoring systems, adjusts lesson plans based on student performance, ensuring that learners progress at their own pace. This approach is particularly beneficial for students who struggle with traditional classroom settings. AI can provide additional support to those who need extra help while allowing advanced students to move ahead without waiting for the rest of the class. Programmes like Carnegie Learning and Squirrel AI use machine learning algorithms to enhance student engagement, making lessons more interactive and efficient. Beyond the classroom, AI is streamlining administrative tasks, enabling educators to focus more on teaching. AI-powered tools can automate grading, schedule management and attendance tracking, reducing the time spent on paperwork. Data privacy is a major concern, as AI systems rely on large amounts of student data to personalise learning experiences. Schools must implement strict data protection measures to prevent misuse of sensitive information. Another concern is the potential decline in human interaction in education. While AI can provide excellent academic support, it lacks the emotional intelligence and mentorship that human teachers offer. Learning is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about developing social and emotional skills, which require personal guidance from educators. AI is undoubtedly shaping the future of education, making learning more accessible and efficient. However, its role should complement rather than replace traditional teaching methods. This year marks a significant milestone for BSB as it celebrates 30 years of delivering worldclass education in the Kingdom. At the helm is Ms. Stanley, Executive Headteacher since 2024, whose forward-thinking leadership is already shaping the next chapter in the school’s story. bahrainthismonth.com | APRIL 2025 INTERVIEW 28 Pixel Perfecti n Muhammed Izaan, a 10-year-old prodigy from Bahrain, is stunning the art scene with incredible mosaic portraits made from a simple toy … the iconic Rubik’s Cube. A student at Capital School Bahrain, Muhammed is captivating audiences by turning a childhood passion into an impressive craft, creating intricate portraits using hundreds of cubes. Muhammed’s love for the Rubik’s Cube began early. “I started solving cubes when I was just four years old,” he explains. “From that moment, it became an exciting challenge and passion.” Over the years, he has mastered multiple variations of the puzzle, including shape-shifting and gear cubes. However, his fascination with mosaic art took his skills to another level. “The inspiration to create Rubik’s Cube portraits came from international cubers,” he says. “I saw people making detailed portraits with cubes, and I thought, ‘Why not give it a try myself?’” With 500 cubes at his disposal, Muhammed carefully plans each design by pixelating images and solving cubes to fit the pattern. Each portrait takes between 90 to 120 minutes to complete. While the process is enjoyable, certain details require extra attention. “The most challenging part is working on facial features, especially the eyes. The colours have to be placed precisely to get the right look,” he explains. His first large-scale portrait was of Harry Potter, a character he admires. “I love reading and Harry Potter is one of my favourites. Seeing my first big portrait come together was an exciting moment.” Since then, Muhammed has created over 30 portraits of renowned personalities, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Amitabh Bachchan and Mr. Bean. He has showcased his work at various events, from Dana Mall to Thai Mart, often drawing large crowds. “Creating art in front of a live audience is exciting,” he beams. “People come up to me, take pictures and congratulate me. It’s a great feeling!” One of his proudest moments was an event where he presented a portrait of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. “Bahrain MP Dr Maryam Al Aldhain personally congratulated me. That recognition meant a lot,” he reminisces. “Another highlight was receiving a personal message from an Indian movie star after completing his portrait. It was a huge surprise and motivated me even more.” Muhammed’s ambitions extend beyond his current work. “I want to create a massive artwork using 3000 to 4000 cubes, and maybe even attempt a world record. I’m also exploring smaller portraits with micro cubes as gifts.” For those looking to try Rubik’s Cube art, Muhammed advises: “First, master the 3x3 cube. Once you’re confident, start experimenting with colours and patterns. It takes patience, but it’s worth it.” Grateful for his parents’ unwavering support, Muhammed remains focused on expanding his craft. “This journey has been incredible. I’ve met inspiring people, broken records and discovered so many opportunities. I’m excited to see where this takes me next.”
