business bites www.bahrainthismonth.com 55 February 2023 The Chairman of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), HE Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, recently met with the Chairman of Bahrain Technology Companies society (BTECH), Tariq Qassim Fakhroo, to discuss the society’s plans and initiatives to develop the tech sector in Bahrain to increase the sector’s GDP contribution. Tamkeen has strived to support the national economy and all its sectors, including key sectors which are aligned with national priorities including the ICT sector as it contributes to driving economic development. Tamkeen’s strategy includes various initiatives and programmes related to supporting the adoption of modern technologies and their application to projects and businesses. “This will accelerate the growth of Bahraini enterprises and enhance their competitiveness, as well as their ability to create high-quality jobs,” said Chief Executive of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), Maha Mofeez, BTECH Chairman, Tariq Qassim Fakhroo, stated that the board is keen on enhancing the BTECH’s role in assisting Bahraini start-ups and Bahraini tech SMEs. “BTECH’s vision is to take the ICT sector to new heights and this collaboration with Tamkeen can be seen as an important national partnership that will enhance the Society’s initiatives, increase productivity, and support technological innovation,” concluded Mr. Fakhroo. Bahrain-based savings and pensions technology provider, Fintech Robos, and the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) are partnering to launch the ‘Pension Outlook 2022’ Report in the MENA region. The experience and learning curve of Western and developed markets with defined contribution (DC) pension systems will be showcased to the Arab world through the webinar. ‘Pensions Outlook’ is one of two flagship bi-annual international pension reports and indexes produced by the OECD that provide detailed insights and recommendations on the design, implementation and operations of pensions system, by the public and private sectors. Leading OECD pension experts and authors of the ‘Pension Outlook 2022’, which include Pablo Antolin, Principal Economist at OECD’s Private Pension Unit, and Jessica Mosher and Stephanie Payet, both Policy Analysts at the OECD Private Pension Unit, will be presenting their findings at the Webinar and will have a Q&A session with the audience from the Arab pension industry. FINTECH ROBOS TO ORGANISE OECD PENSION EVENT IN MENA CROWDFUNDING PLATFORM LAUNCHED IN BAHRAIN Beban, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hope Ventures, has officially launched its crowdfunding platform, Beban Crowdfunding. The crowdfunding mobile application aims to empower investment in promising businesses so entrepreneurs may secure investment and business opportunities while shedding light on scalable businesses. Investors will also benefit from Beban Crowdfunding’s fully digital onboarding services to streamline their access safely and securely through digital ID verifications. Beban will be open for retail and accredited investors and will provide prospective investors with access to unique investment opportunities with stress-free ownership through its postinvestment management services.
