EXPLORING ARTISTIC EXPRESSION FEBRUARY 18-APRIL 11 ANTHOLOGY FAISAL SAMRA BIN MATAR HOUSE Colour and creativity come together in spectacular fashion at the Bin Matar House for this year’s Spring of Culture festival. ANTHOLOGY features Faisal Samra’s ongoing exploration of mark making as a method of transcending the momentary and the embrace of chance as artistic inspiration. The exhibition takes place at the beautiful Bin Matar House located in Muharraq. This exhibition is open from Saturday to Thursday from 9am to 1pm, and 4pm and 7pm. Entry is free. THE MOST ANGELIC VOCALS FEBRUARY 19 MOWASHAHAT THE SAUDI ARWA SHAIKH EBRAHIM CENTER The talented singer Arwa is emerging as a notable figure in the world of Arabic music, renowned for her captivating voice that beautifully interprets the masterpieces of Arabic songs. She has garnered special acclaim for her distinctive renditions of rhythmic and poetic Arabic music, notably the works of Abdel Wahab and the legendary Umm Kulthum, which have expanded her fan base among authentic Tarab enthusiasts. This event begins at 8pm and is suitable for those 16 years and older. Kindly note that the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture & Research is located in Muharraq. Entry is free. THE LAND OF A MILLION PALMS FEBRUARY 20 TALK WITH A CRAFTSMAN HOUSE OF BASKET WEAVING Grasp this opportunity to learn about palm trees and how to weave using palm tree leaves. The palm tree has a deep connection with Bahrain’s history and land for thousands of years. In fact, palm gardens remain highly significant to the local community, with Bahrain once being known as the Land of a Million Palm Trees. Locals have always had a fondness for this blessed tree, leading to the development of methods and practices aimed at preserving and protecting it. To introduce the public to the crafts related to palms, the House of Basket Weaving hosts a talk featuring the palm tree caretaker (Al-Nakhlawi), Sayed Saleh Jafar Hasan, and the palm tree frond weaving (Saff Al-Khous) practitioner, Zainab Abduljabbar. The talk begins at 7pm and is suitable for those 15 years and older. Entry is free.
