motoring news Bahrainthismonth.com 60 July 2023 Bentley Motors has announced the appointment of Robin Page as the new Director of Design, commencing September 1, 2023. Mr. Page has over 30 years of experience in automotive design, most recently holding a number of roles in the Volvo Car Group. This included Volvo Head of Global Design and UX where he was instrumental in creating the design language for Volvo’s electric future. Before his time at Volvo, Page was Head of Interior Design for Bentley between 2001 and 2013, where achievements included the interior design for the iconic first-generation Continental GT, the pinnacle of luxury, Bentley Mulsanne, and the State Limousine for the Royal Monarch. “To return and have the opportunity to help set the design language for the first Bentley BEVs, redefining the rules while keeping continuity to the past and present, is a challenge I am privileged to lead,” he says. Page will report directly to Bentley’s Chairman and CEO, Adrian Hallmark. Working at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, UK, Page will lead a team of approximately 50 design experts with responsibility for the exterior, interior and colour and trim design for the full current and future Bentley product portfolio, concept and show cars. The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series will begin in October 2023. More dynamic than ever, featuring a wealth of digital innovations and, for the first time, all-electric drive – the BMW i5 takes the lead on the road to sustainable premium mobility in the upper mid-range vehicle segment. The new model generation will be offered worldwide with all-electric drive and as well as with highly efficient petrol engine including 48-volt mild hybrid technology. A clear and reduced design language emphasises the new 5 Series’ sporty elegance and presence. The front view of the new BMW 5 Series is characterised by a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. Notably, the cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand’s hallmark idea of driver orientation. In addition, the new BMW 5 Series features a significantly expanded range of systems for automated driving and parking. The highlight of the range is the optional Driving Assistant Professional including Steering and Lane Control Assist and Distance Control with Stop & Go function. BENTLEY MOTORS APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR OF DESIGN Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bahrain debuted the world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupé, Spectre – a new expression of luxury and the most connected Rolls-Royce ever. The introduction of Spectre marks the beginning of a new era for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in the region, as the marque prepares to build only electric cars by the end of 2030. Spectre sets a new precedent in the creation of an entirely original class of motor cars, the Ultra-Luxury Electric Super Coupé. In terms of digital engineering, Spectre is the most connected Rolls-Royce the marque has ever conceived. With 141,200 sender-receiver functions, seven kilometres of cabling, and over 25,000 sub-functions, Spectre is able to process complex data and exchange information with unparalleled ease. Spectre offers over ten driver assistance systems. Interestingly enough, Spectre is also the first production two-door coupé to be equipped with 23-inch wheels in almost one hundred years. The interior draws inspiration from the timeless mystique of the night sky. With an intricate show of shooting stars, the Starlight Headliner is spellbinding whilst the Illuminated Fascia mesmerises with over 5,500 stars, a feature that took over two years to develop. Additionally, for the first time on a series production Rolls-Royce, Starlight Doors incorporating 4,796 softly illuminated ‘stars’ are available. Spectre is equipped with a completely redesigned digital architecture of luxury named SPIRIT, which not only manages the motor car’s functions, but also seamlessly integrates into the marque’s Whispers application, allowing clients to interact with their car remotely.
