www.bahrainthismonth.com business bites May 2021 31 The Director of Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance received the Korean Ambassador to Bahrain, HE Hae-Kwan Chung to discuss mutual interest and explore areas of collaboration between the BIBF and the Korean Embassy in the education and training fields. The South Korean ambassador expressed his country’s keenness on bolstering bilateral cooperation, especially in the education and training fields to serve common interests. “The Republic of Korea is home to many of the world’s most prestigious higher education institutions, and the Korean ambassador visit paved the way for us to offer more Korean programmes at the BIBF, as we are committed to providing the best qualifications the market has to offer, through our in-house courses and international affiliations,” said the BIBF Director. An increased number of delegations are visiting the BIBF to discuss aspects of cooperation, whereby training arrangements are done for human capital development regionally and on a global scale. DISCUSSING BILATERAL COOPERATION The Bahrain Technology Companies Society (BTECH) is now a member of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) making it the sole representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the alliance given its contribution to the development of the ICT industry in Bahrain. Founded in 1978, WITSA is a leading consortium of the ICT industry association members from over 80 countries and economies around the world, with its members representing over 90 percent of the world ICT market. BTECH’s membership provides the Kingdom with a conducive platform for a more prominent contribution in leading the transformation and development of the ICT industry at the international level, especially as this industry has become the main engine for the global economy. Members of this alliance are pioneers in the ICT market, and they work together to achieve a common vision on significant issues related to this industry, in addition to setting priorities and unifying visions in a world that is shifting towards digitalisation in every aspect. NBB and BisB chairmen and board members, executives and employees engaged in a virtual ESG and Sustainability awareness session, led by Dr. Bernard Duffy an expert in Global Wealth Management, Fund Management and the Institutional Pension sectors. During the session, Dr. Duffy shared knowledge about the growing importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations within the financial services sector, and how ESG is impacting the decisionmaking process of potential investors, stakeholders and the communities in which banks operate. The session, attended by 370 individuals from across the NBB Group, focused on how an organisation can be both socially responsible and engage in impactful investing. Dr. Duffy outlined and provided examples of the different types of ESG reporting banks should be considering and how institutional investors and banks are increasingly considering sustainability issues when making investments and undertaking loans.
