Across genres, from jazz and soul to pop and DJ culture, women are steadily carving out space within Bahrain’s music scene. These six artists represent different generations, approaches and stages of visibility. Whether appearing on festival line-ups, performing in intimate live settings, or working behind the decks, each is contributing to a wider shift in how women are seen, heard and recognised within music in Bahrain today.

Hala Al Turk
One of Bahrain’s most recognisable musical figures, Hala Al Turk represents the level of reach and influence women from the Kingdom can achieve within mainstream pop. Her career continues to resonate with younger audiences, offering a visible reference point for Bahraini women pursuing music on a regional stage.

Esraa J
Blending jazz, neo-soul and folk influences, Esraa J has emerged as one of Bahrain’s most distinctive contemporary voices. Her live performances, including appearances connected to jazz and music festivals in the Kingdom, reflect a strong commitment to musicianship and emotional clarity. Working within genres where female representation remains limited locally, her work quietly challenges expectations and broadens the scope of Bahrain’s live music landscape.

May Al-Qasim
Often referred to as Bahrain’s “Queen of R&B”, May Al-Qasim is part of a new wave of artists bringing soul-led music into greater local focus. Writing and performing original material, her presence signals a growing sense of creative ownership among women working within contemporary R&B in Bahrain.

Reem Baqeri
With her debut single Read, Reem Baqeri introduced an introspective acoustic pop sound rooted in personal expression. Her work represents a quieter form of progress, prioritising honesty and emotional nuance over spectacle, and reflecting the expanding space for female songwriters to explore vulnerability through music.

Hind
A long-standing figure in Arabic and Khaleeji music, Hind’s career spans decades across Bahrain and the wider Gulf. Her sustained presence speaks to resilience and longevity, offering a rare example of a female artist maintaining relevance within a traditionally male-dominated regional industry.

DJ Leil
Recognised as the first female DJ in the Arabian Gulf, DJ Leil’s impact extends beyond performance alone. As a pioneer within Bahrain’s nightlife and cultural scenes, she helped normalise female presence behind the decks at a time when DJ culture was largely male-led.
