A Climb for the Kingdom

Mr. Al Aamer summited Nepal’s highest trekkable peak, located at a staggering 6,476m above sea level, and raised the Kingdom’s flag at an altitude he had never attempted before. Such a punishing climb was a challenge he set for himself to push his limits and carry Bahrain’s colours to a place no one had stood before.
Mr. Al Aamer was inspired by the influence of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, whose leadership, athletic discipline and mountaineering triumphs have become a beacon for Bahraini youth. The National Guard team’s success on Manaslu, Lobuche and Everest showed him what could be achieved with focus and courage. “Being Bahraini means representing the Kingdom wherever I go,” he asserts. “I consider myself an ambassador on every mountain.”
The trek demanded physical resilience and mental steadiness. Summit night brought severe cold, strong winds and relentless snowfall. Years of experience taught him to go, as he puts it, “slow and steady” to avoid altitude sickness and remain centred. In the darkest hours of the ascent, he relied on a simple mantra: “Enjoy the journey. Trust the process. Every step brings you closer.”
The summit, he reflects, was “only a brief moment” when set against the long, challenging journey that led to it. Preparation played a crucial role. In the month leading up to the expedition, he had focused on running and HIIT training to build strength and endurance. He also believes that mental readiness is just as vital, shaped by nearly a decade spent in the mountains. He posted updates throughout, hoping to inspire young Bahrainis to follow in his footsteps.
At the Mera Peak summit, beneath a rising sun and a sky brushed with drifting snow, he raised Bahrain’s flag with pride. Reflecting on the moment, he states that the significance of the climb lies not only in that moment but in the perseverance that made it possible. “The hardest days are the ones that push you to your goal,” he remarks. “Enjoying the process is what truly gets you there.”
Since 2015, Mr. Al Aamer has travelled across Asia, scaling peaks such as Imja Tse and Lobuche Peak among many others. Now, looking ahead, he is preparing for his next challenge. His sights are set on higher crests, including Himlung Himal in Nepal and Lenin Peak in Tajikistan, both soaring beyond 7,000m. With each climb, he hopes to continue representing Bahrain and advancing the Kingdom’s status in the mountaineering community.
As Bahrain celebrates National Day, Abdulrahman hopes his achievement encourages young people to embrace adventure, step outside their comfort zones and discover resilience within themselves. “Everything is achievable if you stay focused on your steps, your progress and the journey,” he advises. “You are the reason Bahrain shines in every field.”
