Education in Action

The recent wave of challenges across the Middle East since February 28 has tested the strength and adaptability of educational institutions throughout the region.
In the face of uncertainty, some schools paused, others closed and many struggled to respond. Yet during this difficult period, Bhavans Bahrain Indian School, under the aegis of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, stood out as a model of resilience, innovation and values-based education. Rooted in a philosophy that balances tradition with progress, the school demonstrated that true education is not confined to classrooms. It lives in vision, leadership and commitment.
When directives were issued by Bahrain’s Ministry of Education, the school responded with impressive speed and precision. Without delay, its entire teaching system was transitioned into a fully functioning online model. This swift move was not only efficient but exceptional. While annual examinations were cancelled and several schools across the region temporarily shut down, Bhavans Bahrain Indian School remained fully operational, ensuring continuity without compromise.
At the heart of this response was the support of directors Himanshu Verma and Ritu Verma, whose guidance enabled the school to act quickly, strategically and purposefully. Alongside them, Principal Saji Jacob provided decisive leadership and a clear focus that helped steer the institution through a period of uncertainty. Vice Principal Kripajah George also played a key role, ensuring academic coordination, structure and consistency across all levels.
What followed was a remarkable demonstration of commitment from the entire school community. The school recorded nearly 80 per cent attendance on a consistent basis, reflecting the trust, engagement and motivation shared by students and parents alike. Carefully planned schedules, interactive lessons and creative activities helped immerse students in learning, offering them a sense of normality, purpose and positivity amid wider regional concerns.
Inspired by Bhavan’s timeless ideal, ‘Let noble thoughts come to us from every side’, the school ensured that learning remained both holistic and meaningful. Teachers reimagined their classrooms through digital platforms, multimedia content and interactive methods, working with dedication to keep students both academically engaged and emotionally connected. Their efforts transformed difficult days into opportunities for creativity, curiosity and growth.

Recognising that education extends beyond academic achievement, the school also placed strong emphasis on student wellbeing. Structured counselling workshops were conducted class by class, equipping students with the emotional resilience needed to navigate uncertainty. These sessions encouraged them to stay hopeful, remain focused and strive to become stronger versions of themselves even in challenging circumstances.
Parents, too, were embraced as essential partners in the learning journey. The school organised orientation sessions to help them support their children effectively during online learning. This inclusive approach strengthened the link between school and home, ensuring that families felt informed, supported and valued throughout the process.
The impact of these collective efforts has been significant. The school received widespread appreciation for ensuring uninterrupted academic delivery while also fostering unity, reassurance and optimism within its community. By supporting parents and nurturing students with care and foresight, Bhavans Bahrain Indian School reinforced a powerful message: that challenges can be overcome when people work together with trust and purpose.
More importantly, the institution offered hope. It reminded its community that difficult times do pass and that Bahrain, the beloved ‘island of pearls’, will return to the vibrant normality that defines its spirit.
In essence, the story of Bhavans Bahrain Indian School during this period is not simply one of adaptation. It is one of transformation, showing how courage, compassion and conviction can turn adversity into an opportunity to lead by example.
