Education as Stability

Priyanka Batra, Co-Founder of Saar Nursery and Evolution Childcare, reflects on how the current war situation has expanded the role of schools. For her, education in such moments must provide routine and reassurance for children and their families.

From the beginning, the priority has been student well-being. As daily life became less predictable, the school adapted its approach to help children stay connected to familiar routines. Online sessions, home learning activities and regular contact with parents have helped maintain that continuity.

The emotional needs of children have also required closer attention. Young children do not always voice fear directly, but they are affected by the mood around them. In response, the school has made space for storytelling, creative activities and simple conversations that help children express what they are feeling in ways that suit their age. Teachers are attentive to signs of distress and respond with reassurance and care.

Communication with parents has been a central part of that work. The school continues to share guidance on how families can speak to children about difficult events, keep home routines consistent and reduce anxiety where possible. That exchange has strengthened trust between school and home at a time when consistency matters.

There has also been a deliberate effort to maintain a sense of optimism within the school environment. Small celebrations, virtual gatherings and shared examples of kindness help remind children that difficult periods do not define every part of daily life. These moments may seem small, but they shape how children experience uncertainty.

Running a school in these circumstances comes with real pressure. Uncertainty affects planning, finances and the wider emotional atmosphere around staff and families. Even so, the experience has reinforced the importance of a school’s role beyond teaching alone.
