The King Hamad American Mission Hospital (KHAMH) in AâAli marks its first anniversary as a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, a milestone that reflects a significant step forward for specialised healthcare in Bahrain.
âWe have become the 15th International member, and the first from Bahrain, to join the elite group of hospitals that form the Mayo Clinic Care Network, and we are already making remarkable progress in bringing worldclass healthcare to Bahrain,â says Dr George Cheriyan, the Corporate CEO of the American Mission Hospital.
Mayo Clinic, based in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, has been ranked the worldâs number one hospital for seven consecutive years by Newsweek-Statista âWorldâs Best Hospitalsâ list, and it appointed the King Hamad American Mission Hospital (KHAMH), as its MCCN member in December 2024.
AMH Chief of Medical Staff, Dr. Deepak Abraham, who manages the collaboration between AMH-Mayo Clinic says: âOver the last year, the KHAMH has achieved many milestones as a part of this partnership.

âWe hosted two symposiums in Paediatrics, and we brought Mayo experts as keynote speakers. Our teams participated in a wide range of Mayo Clinicâs educational programmes, including a Quality Improvement course, a Change Management workshop, Huddles That Heal, multiple nursing courses, an AI workshop and a Governance workshop, all with the result of strengthening our capabilities across disciplines,â he added.
âThrough âAsk Mayo Expertâ, an online medical reference tool for healthcare providers, offering clinical guidelines, treatment recommendations and patient education materials, which our staff can directly and exclusively access from the Mayo Clinic, the hospital and the community are the community are gaining a lot,â Dr. Deepak Abraham also reveals.
âOur physicians, surgeons and other clinical services professionals have been able to gain and share knowledge, with colleagues and patients, that is up to date,â he said. âIn fact, on the âAsk Mayo Expertâ web-based knowledge base, we have recorded approximately 5,000 unique sessions, covering more than 5,500 unique medical topics, reflecting the growing engagement of our clinicians with evidence-based global knowledgeâ.
âWe have also consulted experts from Mayo Clinic in paediatric diabetes, neurorehabilitation, and values-based care, enhancing the quality of patient management and clinical decision-making at King Hamad American Mission Hospital. Additionally, one of our physicians completed an observership at Mayo in November 2025.â

The hospital also had had many successful e-consults, showcasing its ongoing commitment to collaborative, expert-driven care. These milestones highlight a year of growth, learning and meaningful progress, advancing the hospitalâs shared mission to deliver world-class healthcare.â
A patient at KHAMH presented with an abnormality in cardiac health. Once the doctors identified a rare genetic condition, the KHAMH team wanted to provide the family with as much clarity and reassurance as possible and turned to Mayo Clinic, through its e-consult option.
eConsult is one of the valuable benefits of their MCCN collaboration which connects KHAMH doctors with Mayo Clinic experts. What happened next felt almost meant to be.
The Mayo physician who responded wasnât just knowledgeable; he was, in fact, the very researcher who had originally identified this one rare genetic variant in his own laboratory.
With his unique insight, he was able to answer all of KHAMHâs doctorsâ questions and provide a level of clarity and reassurance.
The KHAMH team then confidently continued with the patientâs treatment plan, knowing they were offering care supported by the highest level of expertise.
