Dr. Rana Sawaya, President of the University College of Bahrain, shares her thoughts on the institution’s vision, achievements and its continuing commitment to delivering a transformative educational journey for students.
The University College of Bahrain (UCB) was founded in 2002 by Prof. Shaikh Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, driven by a vision to establish a private higher education institution that prioritises students while excelling academically. UCB has built a reputation as a student-centred university, recognised for its commitment to academic excellence and student success.
“At UCB we offer undergraduate programmes in Business Administration, Information Technology and Communications & Multimedia along with a Master of Business Administration programme,” Dr. Sawaya explains. “Our educational philosophy integrates creativity, business dynamics, liberal arts and sciences to ensure high-quality education that meets local and international standards. Our continuously updated curriculum equips graduates with the knowledge and skills required to become leaders in their fields.”
UCB’s mission is to foster innovation, teamwork and critical thinking to inspire personal growth and lifelong learning. Its commitment extends beyond academics to serve the social, cultural and economic needs of Bahrain and the wider region.
“Our pursuit of excellence has been recognised through prestigious achievements,” she adds. “We have received a quality assurance certificate from the Jordanian Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutes (AQACHEI). The Saudi Ministry of Education has listed UCB on its Safeer platform as a recommended institution. Most recently, the Board of Trustees for Higher Education granted UCB a four-year institutional accreditation. UCB has also achieved the QAA International Institutional Accreditation (IQR) and the QAA International Programme Accreditation (IPA) for its MBA programme, awarded by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
“As we continue to advance greater milestones, we invite aspiring students to join us for the 2025–2026 academic year and embark on a transformative educational journey. At UCB you will become part of a vibrant community dedicated to shaping future leaders.”
