Connected Care

American Mission Hospital is strengthening healthcare in Bahrain through global collaborations that support patient care while creating valuable opportunities for medical education.

American Mission Hospital (AMH) has expanded its work with leading medical institutions, with its latest agreement creating new opportunities for healthcare professionals in Bahrain.

“In May this year, American Mission Hospital (AMH) and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Medical University of Bahrain signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise and strengthen collaboration in healthcare education, clinical training and healthcare research in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” explains Dr. George Cheriyan, Corporate CEO of American Mission Hospital.

“Building on the longstanding relationship between the two not-for-profit organisations, our agreement establishes a strategic framework to expand joint initiatives supporting the education and training of future healthcare professionals across undergraduate and clinical postgraduate levels, including the internship and Arab Board programmes,” he adds.

The RCSI partnership forms part of AMH’s wider network of collaborations, which also includes Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore in India and Mayo Clinic in the US.

Dr. Cheriyan notes that these collaborations are already yielding positive results and benefiting the community in Bahrain.

“We are not only offering affordable and quality healthcare to the people of this country through our hospital system, but also participating in community development by promoting and enhancing medical education, enabling the future doctors of Bahrain to get the best training possible at our facilities,” notes Dr. Deepak Abraham, Chief Medical Officer at AMH.
Global Expertise

AMH is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network (MCCN), giving its physicians, among other things, access to Ask Mayo Expert, an online medical reference database created by Mayo Clinic for healthcare providers to use at the point of care.

“All our current physicians have access to the online medical reference database, called Ask Mayo Expert, created by Mayo Clinic for healthcare providers to use at the point of care, thanks to our Mayo Clinic Care Network membership,” Dr. Abraham adds.

Mayo Clinic was ranked the world’s number one hospital for the seventh consecutive year by Newsweek and Statista in 2026. It is a global leader in complex patient care and medical research, with a strong focus on education and an integrated, team-based model of healthcare.

Learning Through Exchange

AMH’s collaboration with CMC Vellore has also provided opportunities for young doctors from Bahrain to visit the Indian medical institution.
“Young doctors from Bahrain have gone and seen the amazing work being done at CMC Vellore in India through visits and exchanges,” Dr. Abraham remarks.

Founded in 1900 by Dr. Ida Scudder, CMC Vellore is among India’s top-ranked medical institutions, with healthcare and medical education complemented by its work in research.

Ranked third among medical institutions in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), it serves more than 3.4 million patients annually. CMC is also renowned for high-quality, affordable and compassionate care, alongside its contributions to medical research and specialist healthcare.

Training the Future

Founded in 1784, RCSI is Ireland’s specialist health sciences university, with a longstanding global reputation for medical and surgical education, now, training students in Bahrain too.

It was ranked first in the world for ‘Good Health and Well-being’ in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, reflecting its global impact in healthcare education.
