A Bahrain resident who had an aggressive tumour removed from her face has had her jaw reconstructed using 3D printing technology. In the first-of-its-kind operation in Bahrain, the innovative procedure was used at the King Hamad University Hospital. The 38-year-old Filipina underwent resection surgery on the entire lower right side of her jaw on which a massive tumour was growing. Thanks to a 3D printing centre in India, a titanium jawbone, which was created specifically to match her face and left jawbone, was constructed and fitted. The surgery was performed by KHUH consultant maxillofacial surgeon Dr Ranjit Divakaran.
