Grab a bite!

It’s no secret that the residents of Bahrain get to enjoy some of the very best food from the comfort of their homes thanks to the growth of delivery services. This month, we tried some of the delicious fare from a trending new eatery, #grab.  

It’s not every day that we realise or appreciate the many conveniences that we get to enjoy in this day and age. We, however, consider the fact that it’s possible to place an order and have it delivered to your door within the hour to be a true blessing. While there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, finding one that serves a wide variety that is healthy, delicious and made from fresh ingredients can be a challenge.

That all changed one afternoon when we discovered one of Bahrain’s latest cloud kitchens, #grab. The innovative concept has a brick-and-mortar presence at the Juffair Boulevard Hotel, but the more extensive menu is available to those who order online. On browsing through the menu, we couldn’t help but notice the sheer variety of items which includes everything from Asian to Italian, Russian and everything in between.

To start our experience, we tucked into the colourful Avocado and Shrimp Salad which was uncomplicated yet flavourful as it had just the right amount of dressing. #grab makes a variety of sandwiches with freshly baked ciabbata bread. We opted for the Turkey and Cranberry sandwich which was filled with thick-cut slices of turkey, locally-sourced tomatoes, fresh lettuce, and dollops of cranberry sauce. It’s the perfect bite for when you’re on the go.

The team at #grab has a sensational selection of mains; we couldn’t resist starting our meal with the Lasagna Al Forno. With layers of pasta, spinach and ricotta, this dish was a great start to our main courses – the perfect choice for vegetarians! The Chicken Breast Scallopine with a velvety mushroom and rosemary sauce which paired well with the roast potatoes.  

We loved #grab’s specials which truly push the bar for at-home dining. The Crusted Mini Steaks were our first choice and a good one at that! The delectable beef tenderloin was grilled to perfection and bursting with flavour. This was served with a generous serving of buttery sauteed vegetables including carrots, broccoli and roast potatoes, and a decadent sauce. 

#grab’s take on Grilled Salmon is truly special as they’ve further elevated the dish with a citrusy beurre blanc that added a pleasant zing. We appreciated the fact that the salmon had the perfect sear while the mashed potatoes and vegetables were well-flavoured making it a balanced, healthy meal. 

It’s only natural that we end our meal on a sweet note; so, we picked three desserts: Grandma’s Cinnamon Apple Pie, Rich Chocolate Brownie and the Cheesecake. We’re quite picky with our pies but we loved this one – the crust was light and the filling was pleasantly sweet with just the right amount of cinnamon. The Rich Chocolate Brownie certainly lived up to its name – it was moist, topped with a thick sauce, and embellished with nuts! The cheesecake too was delicious – moist, not too sweet and light too.

The fact of the matter is that our at-home dining habits have now changed; we want to get excited about our orders just as we would when dining in.  After checking out #grab, we can safely say they do an amazing job of doing just that!
