Values That Endure

Quality Education School’s principal, Dr. Ravi Warrier, reflects on two decades of growth, an inclusive British curriculum and the values shaping students for life beyond the classroom today.

Quality Education School Bahrain has grown considerably since it opened in 2003, but its founding purpose remains unchanged: to offer an excellent education to families across the Kingdom without restricting opportunity to those able to pay the highest fees.

From its beginnings in a single building in Salihiya, the school has expanded to a purpose-built campus in Saar serving around 1,500 students. Yet Dr. Warrier believes its greatest achievement is not simply its growth, but the way it has retained the atmosphere of a close-knit community.

He says: “We’ve scaled without losing the feeling of a family school.”
That sense of continuity is reflected in former pupils who have returned years later to enrol their own children. For Dr. Warrier, this is a powerful sign of the trust families continue to place in the school and a reminder that QES has become part of the lives of generations.

Belonging is central to the school’s culture. It can be seen in teachers noticing when a pupil is struggling, colleagues supporting one another and parents recognising that their children feel comfortable and understood.

He says: “Our faculty bring real warmth and ownership to their work, because this school feels like theirs too.”

Academically, QES delivers the British International Curriculum through the Early Years Foundation Stage, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel. This is complemented by the Bahrain National Curriculum, including Arabic, Citizenship Islamic Studies, along with Bahrain History & Geography.

The aim is to prepare pupils for universities and workplaces around the world while ensuring they remain connected to their identity and values.
He explains: “That balance, between global readiness and cultural rootedness, sits at the heart of everything we teach.”

Wellness, resilience, critical thinking and empathy form the foundation of school life, supported by kindness, mindfulness, perseverance, collaboration, creativity, responsibility and integrity. At QES, they guide classroom behaviour, relationships and the way pupils respond to both achievement and disappointment.

While examination results remain important, Dr. Warrier believes character is what ultimately determines how young people use the opportunities education provides.

He says: “Grades open doors. Character determines what a person does once they’re through them.”

Resilience is especially important, allowing pupils to face setbacks without losing confidence. Empathy also matters because, as he notes, intelligence without compassion cannot build a better world. Critical thinking gives students the confidence to question, analyse and seek understanding rather than simply accept answers.

Affordability remains equally important. The school operates efficiently so resources can be directed towards teaching, facilities and an 11:1 student-teacher ratio. The founding directors continue to maintain hands-on oversight of the school, allowing decisions to be made quickly and carefully, ensuring every decision ultimately prioritises the student experience.   

He says: “Excellence and affordability move together here.”

When parents visit QES, Dr. Warrier hopes they come away with a sense of what it means to be a student here, not simply what they will learn, but how they will grow. He believes the curriculum, facilities and opportunities QES provides should ultimately help each child build confidence, discover their strengths and develop as an individual. As a father and grandfather, he understands how important it is for families to place that trust in a school. It is a responsibility he carries into every aspect of QES.

Looking ahead, Dr. Warrier’s vision is to ensure that QES’s founding promise of making quality education accessible, while giving children the values and self-confidence to build their own futures, continues for every generation of students. Former pupils have gone on to become doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs and parents, carrying with them the empathy, resilience and sense of identity they developed at QES.

He says: “My vision for the years ahead is to keep giving every child who walks through our gates that opportunity to learn, grow in confidence, discover their strengths and believe in what they can achieve.”
