Jewellery Arabia 2024 is set to welcome a notable addition – the inaugural French Pavilion, organised by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bahrain (FCCIB). This pavilion will highlight the exceptional craftsmanship and innovation of French luxury brands. In an exclusive interview with Bahrain This Month, Rim Jalali, Executive Director of FCCIB, shares insights into the inspiration behind this initiative, the selection process for exhibitors, and the impact the French Pavilion is expected to have on Jewellery Arabia.
A First for Jewellery Arabia
This is the first time in 30 years that a French Pavilion will feature at Jewellery Arabia. “We noticed that while French brands were present, they were often scattered with no special emphasis,” says Mrs. Jalali. The new pavilion seeks to bring together French brands under one umbrella, showcasing France’s renowned craftsmanship in jewellery.
The French Pavilion, whose architecture in inspired from the famous Place Vendome in Paris, will be hosted by Asia Jewellers within its expansive 3,400 square-metre Grand Pavilion. “Asia Jewellers celebrates French artistry, strengthening the bonds of partnership between France and Bahrain,” she adds.
Curating a Selection of Excellence
Selecting the exhibitors for the French Pavilion was a meticulous process. FCCIB worked in collaboration with Francéclat and Asia Jewellers to ensure that the chosen brands represent the best of French innovation, quality and craftsmanship. The 11 bespoke brands representing French Haute Joaillerie are: Cédille, Copin, Canelle Poncin-Germain Joaillerie, Elie Top, In Fine Joaillier, Lustrlabs, Maison Alix Dumas, Manoyas, Rouvenat, Tatiana Verstraeten Jewellery and Van Den Abeele, each offering a blend of tradition and modernity.
“Visitors can expect to see avant-garde designs that merge contemporary aesthetics with classic elegance,” says Mrs. Jalali. Many exhibitors will also offer bespoke services, allowing attendees to customise pieces, further enhancing the luxury experience.
Elevating Jewellery Arabia’s Prestige
The inclusion of French luxury brands is expected to draw a high-end clientele. “The French Pavilion will not only enhance the event’s diversity but also provide attendees with a more comprehensive view of global jewellery trends,” Mrs. Jalali explains. The pavilion’s presence will also foster networking opportunities, encouraging collaborations between French and local brands, benefiting the wider jewellery industry.
Overcoming Challenges
Organising this inaugural pavilion came with challenges, from logistics and funding to securing exhibitor participation. “Ensuring a diverse selection of French brands while securing their commitment was one of our key challenges,” Mrs. Jalali notes. However, the opportunities far outweigh these obstacles, providing French brands a platform to increase their visibility in the Middle East.
A Glimpse into the Future
Looking ahead, Mrs. Jalali envisions the French Pavilion becoming a regular feature at Jewellery Arabia. “As the pavilion gains recognition, more French brands may be eager to participate, expanding the range of offerings,” she says. “Additionally, sustainability is expected to play a larger role, with future editions highlighting eco-friendly practices in luxury jewellery.”
The French Pavilion is not only set to enhance the prestige of Jewellery Arabia but also foster long-term Franco-Bahraini business relations. “We’re excited to see how this pavilion will evolve and contribute to the success of Jewellery Arabia,” Mrs. Jalali concludes.
