Websites Review - September 2018

Site: www.hemingwayapp.com

What is it?
Hemingway Editor is a great tool for writers of all ages to explore their writer’s voice, while becoming a stronger writer. The site identifies common writing errors such as difficult-to-read sentences and word usage that could be simplified. Simply write on the website or copy and paste previously written pieces. Once turned into editing mode, it will identify general writing mistakes.

The Good
Aspiring writers of all ages will be fascinated by this editing website, seeing where changes need to be made to improve their writing. The site design is simplistic, yet engaging, and instructions on how to use it are very clear.

The Bad
The site only states what to change, not why to change it. It could do a better job of explaining why certain changes should be made so users learn from their mistakes.

Camp Google is a website designed to help kids learn about various topics ranging from music to space to the oceans. The topics change on a weekly basis, and students are provided a series of assignments based on lessons in each topic. The site content mixes videos, written descriptions, and hands-on activities kids can try at home to illustrate scientific concepts. Each item is designed to answer a question, which helps make the intent and subject matter clear.
