The sumptuous Gujarati Thali Lunch at Al Hamra Restaurant in the Delmon International Hotel is a royal treat of luxurious Indian style.
On arrival you are treated to a plate of roasted pappads with assorted chutneys and Chaas. And, although the lunch is a buffet in the sense that the thali is unlimited, the dishes are initially presented in the katori – a large stainless-steel dish.
For snacks, make sure to try the dhokla and patra with the traditional Gujarati sautéed julienned cabbage and carrots that complement the taste and texture of other preparations served.
The main-course dal is slightly on the sweeter side and there are great looking, tasty green vegetable dry preparations consisting of palak and different kinds of green beans. You’ll also find the usual pulses, drumstick kadi and alu in tamatar gravy, Sev Tamatar and the all-time favourite, Undhiyo.
Hot assorted rotis – thepla, phulka and large puffed puris – are prepared on live stations. Then try the rice and khichdi.
To bring your meal to a sweet conclusion there’s a variety of desserts, including sitaphal basundi or Aam Raas, based on the seasonal availability. Jelebi served hot and prepared in pure desi Ghee is served occasionally.
The menu is prepared daily with the chef insisting on only the freshest ingredients. And the portions are so generous as to satisfy the heartiest appetite.
And at the end, the traditional mukhvas with dana and sweet saunf are offered.
