Kristian Harrison recently took the Porsche Taycan Turbo S for a spin around Bahrain, experiencing first-hand the perfect fusion of cutting-edge technology, thrilling performance and refined luxury.

When Porsche hands you the keys to a Taycan Turbo S, you know you’re in for a good day. I had the pleasure of taking it out around Bahrain recently, and let me tell you, from the moment I pressed the start button, it felt like stepping into the future.

Blink And You’ll Miss It
You’ve probably seen the numbers already: 952 PS, 1,110 Nm of torque, 0–100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds. Impressive on paper, but living it is something else entirely. The first time I floored it (within the boundaries of the speed limit of course), it felt like being at the theme park on one of the breakneck rollercoasters. My head hit the seat, the skyline blurred and my stomach briefly considered filing a complaint. The instant torque of a fully electric behemoth is no joke; simultaneously addictive, smooth and a little bit terrifying in the best way.

What surprised me most was how effortless it all feels. There’s no drama, no hesitation, just silent, relentless acceleration. You almost expect it to need a breather, but the Taycan just keeps going, as if daring you to keep up. The range will last you a good few days too, even in Sport mode while driving up and down the Kingdom to show it off to your friends.

In fact, with up to 626km of range and charging that gets you from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes, the old fears and stereotypes about EVs should really be banished to the aether where they belong. Even if you miss the noise, the Electric Sport Sound can provide all the grunting and emotions that a petrol engine can without any of the emissions.

Smarter Than It Looks
The car is as clever as it is fast. The rear-axle steering makes tight turns feel like child’s play, especially when squeezing through Adliya’s narrower streets. Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus helps you glide around roundabouts like you’re on rails, and the adaptive air suspension constantly adjusts itself so you’re equally comfortable cruising the highways as you are carving through back roads.

Inside, it’s a tech lover’s dream. A curved 16.8-inch driver display, seamless infotainment, and a BOSE sound system that could double as a live gig in your car. I’ll admit I spent far too long playing with the touchscreen, pretending to be in a spaceship while blasting music through 14 perfectly tuned speakers.

The Future Feels Normal
Driving it around Bahrain, I didn’t feel like I was testing an experimental future tech. I felt like I was driving the present. A very fast, very luxurious present. Like it or not, EVs are here, they are ready, and, thanks to the power of Porsche, they are absolutely phenomenal.
