Mass weddings - the Affordable Option for a Happy Life

For the seventh year in a row, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation organised a mass marriage ceremony for Bahraini youth under the patronage of HM the King’s Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Charity Organisation, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. 500 Bahraini couples were wedded in an event attended by the UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, Shaikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa hailed the royal foresight in promoting such charitable initiatives which ensure that the nation’s youth embark on their lives on a stable and decent footing. He praised the support of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation in organising the ceremony, which reflects the solid longstanding fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. He congratulated the married couples and wished them a happy and prosperous life.

UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, Shaikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan also commended the royal support for the mass wedding ceremony. He lauded the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for its generous support in organising mass weddings for 1823 Bahraini couples since the launch of this initiative in 2011.

Mass weddings have been hailed in Bahrain as a welcome change from the existing social norm of hosting extravagant wedding parties accompanied by the exchange of lavish dowries. The inflated expenses lead many youth to debt and steer the rest towards looking for wedding partners in foreign countries. There has been a wave of support for communal weddings as they also promote a sense of unity and togetherness within the community.
