100 Cath Lab Procedures Performed in Key Milestone for BSH Apollo Heart Center

Bahrain Specialist Hospital has achieved another key milestone - performing 100 Cath Lab Procedures since opening the First Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory within the private sector in Bahrain, in December 2019.

Bahrain Specialist Hospital Managing Director, Dr. Kasim Ardati shares that “This a monumental achievement for the BSH Apollo Heart Center to perform 100 Cath lab procedures. It is important to close the critical gap between the diagnosis of a heart attack and establishing flow in the occluded coronary artery. Since every second is precious in the treatment of heart attack, specialists at BSH review every aspect of the treatment process - from patient arrival (door) to the start of treatment (balloon).”

With such advancements in cardiac care through the collaboration with the renowned Apollo group in India, the centre has far exceeded world standards in reducing this “door-to-balloon” time with an average of 42 minutes, compared to the international goal of 90 minutes. This elevates the Kingdom’s position regionally as a center for safe, qualitative, professional and experienced cardiac care.

Dr. Abdul Azeez Asad Mohammed, Interventional Cardiologist who spearheads the Cardiac Catheterization Lab further added, “The BSH Apollo Heart Center Catheterization Lab has been performing a diversity of procedures such as diagnostic coronary angiograms, interventional procedures like coronary angioplasty and stenting including primary PCI for acute heart attack, multi vessel PCI, peripheral angiogram and peripheral angioplasty besides unique procedures like percutaneous procedures related to dialysis AV fistula and coil embolization of AV Malformations.”

“We are grateful to the entire Cath lab team for their dedication and commitment towards providing accessible cardiac care and saving lives,” he concluded
