32 Violators of Coronavirus Precautions Referred to Public Prosecution

Thirty-two people have been referred to the Public Prosecution to face charges for breaching the mandatory precautionary measures for combating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Ministry Ministry said that the violators were found in breach of the health protocols which were set by the competent authorities to combat the pandemic and curb infections.

The Directorate of Public Health said that 5 violators who were referred to the Public Prosecution last April did not comply with the home self-quarantine requirements.

It pointed out that 27 others were also referred to the Public Prosecution to face charges for breaching the mandatory precautionary measures – 23 of whom violated the health protocols which should be enforced at restaurants and cafes and 4 others were caught in breach of health protocols at hair salons and beauty parlours.

Failure to comply with the home self-quarantine can incur up to three months in jail or a fine ranging from BD1000 and BD10000, under Article 121 of Law 34 of 2018 on Public Health.
