bahrain government announces sports ban

All indoor sports activities have been suspended by the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry in an attempt to limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to a statement released this morning.

In a statement, the ministry said in light of the ongoing public health and safety crisis, all national sports clubs, youth and sports centres in Bahrain have been directed to stop all sports inside gyms, covered playgrounds and swimming pools until further notice.

All official activities will be held behind closed doors whilst games and sports activities in open spaces will continue without fans and spectators provided that all preventive and precautionary measures are taken and the guidelines announced by the Ministry of Health and the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (COVID-19) are implemented.

The parties involved should ensure that the necessary disinfection, clean-up and medical tests are carried out in accordance with the laws and regulations.
