Bahrain, want to make a difference this Christmas? Check out these Charities!

‘Tis the season of goodwill and charities across the Kingdom are preparing for the Christmas period by launching collection drives and initiatives in order to put smiles on faces after a tumultuous year.

We’ve found six charities who are looking to make a difference this Christmas:

ROTARACT BAHRAIN
Rotaract Bahrain is calling on people to donate their waste plastic materials so that they can be recycled to raise funds for specialist wheelchairs for the disabled. This is being held in conjunction with the Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled (BAPFD). More than 125 children have received special wheelchairs since the start of the initiative in 2011.

For details and to arrange drop-offs of plastic, follow @rotaractbahrain on Instagram or WhatsApp +21628279492.

BAHRAIN RED CRESCENT SOCIETY
Bahrain Red Crescent Society is a volunteer charity founded in 1971. It has been recognised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva since September 14, 1972. The society is currently collecting donations to buy heaters and help the displaced Syrians survive freezing weather conditions in Lebanon as part of its ongoing relief programme.

BAHRAIN ANIMAL RESCUE CENTRE
The Bahrain Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) was founded by Sandi Thom after the passing of Tony the Dogfather to carry on his vision of rehabilitating and rehoming the hurt and abandoned animals of Bahrain. The centre is asking for donations in order to keep its array of animals fed and cared for over the festive period and beyond.

A BOX OF GOODNESS
A Box of Goodness is a charity run by a close group of young expat women. The main idea is to promote a daily habit of giving in charity. As such, A Box of Goodness promotes children and adults to collect items in an empty box, adding one item a day for one month. At the end of the month, you have a box full of goodness to share with someone in need. This month, the charity is asking for donations of clean and gently used winter clothing, such as gloves, socks, sweaters, scarves and heavy linen.

BAHRAIN CANCER SOCIETY
The Bahrain Cancer Society was established in 1989 as a voluntary non-profitable organisation. Since that time, the society has worked hard to provide education and information to the public about causes of cancer, cancer treatment and methods of prevention. The society has also been supporting relevant research studies undertaken by individuals or institutes and providing training for individuals participating in the field of cancer prevention. The society is collecting donations now in order to continue its fine work into 2021.

BSPCA
The Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) was established in 1979 by a small group of committed and passionate animal lovers. The Society is run by a dedicated group of volunteers and receives no official funding whatsoever. The Society depends on the generosity of the public for its funds as well as monies generated by the Thrift Shop. As such, it is asking for donations over the festive period.
