Ministry Closes Pharmacy

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism has closed a pharmacy in Riffa for hiking the prices of sanitisers, thus profiting from the exceptional conditions resulting from the presence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Bahrain.

The pharmacy was found to be hiking the price of the 250 ml hand sanitizers by 81% and the 500 ml one by 105% in profit margin following the soaring demand for such products.Hence, the pharmacy was found to be in breach of Law 35 of 2019 on consumer protection according to a statement released by the ministry.

The ministry stressed that the hiking of prices for such products is an irresponsible and unacceptable act that deprives people of necessary goods, thus  exploiting these circumstances, without heeding public interest.

The ministry reiterated resolve to continue its clampdown to ensure the commitment of all pharmacies, shops, markets and trading outlets to provide affordable prices to consumers, warning that violators would face legal measures.
