Over 50,000 Trees to be Planted in Bahrain

As part of the Forever Green campaign, initiated by National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), 22 locations across Bahrain will have over 50,000 trees and shrubs planted on an area of over 70,000 sqm.

The plantation of the 50,000 trees is part of the first phase of the ongoing project. The initiative is taking place through a public-private partnership, involving individuals, institutions and the community to support national efforts to expand green spaces in the Kingdom and contribute to the fight against climate change. The afforestation project is taking place across 4 governorates.

Recently, the Al Fateh Corniche received a landscape makeover through the campaign when trees and seedlings were planted across the easetern part of the Corniche, with support from the Gulf International Bank(GIB). Under the initiative, 180 poinciana, acacia and neem trees as well as Ficus and Jatropha trees were planted, to provide the Manama corniche with a beautiful landscape and a healthy environment and expand the green area in Bahrain.

The ceremony was attended by NIAD Secretary-General Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, GIB Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Group CEO Jamal Al Kishi, GIB senior officers and Capital Trust officers.

The Forever Green campaign was launched under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Chairperson of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.
