Qawwali night in Bahrain: everything on the ancient tradition

The ancient musical performance is a once in a lifetime opportunity and this is your chance to experience it first-hand. Here is everything you need to know about the performance.

What is Qawwali?

This is an energetic musical performance of Sufi Muslim poetry that is said to lead listeners to a state of religious ecstasy and a spiritual union with Allah. The performances got globally recognised because of its promotion through the world music industry.

The Nooran sisters

Sultana and Jyoti are a devotional Sufi singing duo from India. In 2012 they were featured in a song, ‘Tung Tung’ on MTV India. This was later adapted for Bollywood film ‘Singh is Bling.’ They released their first album in 2015 and were part of the global recognition that Qawwali received, transforming the sacred spiritual experience.

The performance

On 7 March from 8pm, Shri Nawaz Sabri will lead renowned Sufi musicians for the spiritual experience. His grandfather was Ustad Nizam Ragi and his father was Ustad Samar Nizami. They were both well-known qawwals. This is a free entry event and is based on a first come first serve basis. So make sure to get their early to get the best view.
