Survey Finds Cricket to be the most Popular Sport in Bahrain

Cricket emerged as the most popular sport in Bahrain as per a pan-GCC YouGov survey commissioned by UAE Exchange. Cricket was preferred by 35% of survey respondents in Bahrain whereas football followed with 31%. The survey included popular sports such as football, tennis, Formula 1 and basketball.

Rahul Pai, Chief Operating Officer of Unimoni Group said by being the title sponsor of Asia Cup, Unimoni aimed to engage with customers through cricket. He added how commissioning a YouGov survey would help them better understand the audience’s response, and what more was expected from the tournament. “The survey reflects the growing popularity of cricket in the region, with 51% of the respondents turning out to be fans of the game across the GCC. Among Bahrain nationals, cricket ranked third, after football and Formula One as a preferred sport. This is an indicator of how cricket has made its way into the country to be listed among the top three sports.”

While 26% of respondents voted for India’s batsman Rohit Sharma to be adjudged the best player at the end of the Unimoni Asia Cup, 18% voted for Pakistan’s bowler Hasan Ali.

“As a brand that facilitates seamless money movement across geographies, we are proud to be part of Asia Cup, sharing the excitement of cricket with fans in the Bahrain and around the world,” Rahul concluded.
