Venue Details

Arad Fort is a 15th century fort in Bahrain, with typical Arab pattern architecture. The Fort or the Qalat al Bahrain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an archaeological site and fort, which was the capital of ancient Dilmun civilization.

Located in proximity to Bahrain International Airport, the Arad Fort is an interesting fort to visit for tourists. In fact, it is the first landmark that comes your way when you get down at the airport. It is located adjacent to the waterways between Bahrain Island and Muharraq.

People visit the fort more for its historical value. While some historians are of the opinion that the fort was utilized by the Omanis during the 1800s when they occupied Bahrain, there is also evidence that Portuguese used the fort during the 16th century. Meanwhile, Shaikh Salman Bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa occupied the fort in the 19th century. It remains to be a visual spectacle during the day, while it appears more wonderful during night.

Recently, the Arad Fort in Bahrain has undergone some renovation work. The restoration which took three years was done using tree trunks, coral stone, lime and other traditional materials.

Built in 15th century, the square shape and huge circular towers at the corners are typical of Bahraini military architecture. Coral limestone was used for construction, while the adjacent wells provided for fresh water. The fort controls the navigation between a small island and the main Bahrain Island.

The Arad Fort has grown to be one of the major tourist attractions and is an indispensable part of sightseeing in Bahrain
