The SKAL Club of Bahrain, founded on October 28, 1972, has been a cornerstone of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries in Bahrain for over four decades. Established by 44 prominent members from the hotel and travel sectors, many of whom had previous experience with SKAL Clubs in other parts of the world, the Bahrain chapter has since grown to become a leading force in the Middle East’s tourism landscape.

Notable founding members include Mr. Jamil Wafa, the first president of the Club, alongside distinguished individuals like Mr. Mohamed Jalal, Mr. Shawqi Zayani, Mr. Bill Neill, Mr. Ebrahim Amin, and Sh. Isa bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, who was part of the Ministry of Information at the time. Their vision of creating an influential network within the tourism industry laid the foundation for the Club’s success.

The SKAL Club of Bahrain became affiliated with the Asian Area in 1979 and achieved international recognition when it hosted the Asian Congress in September 1983. This event not only showcased Bahrain’s thriving tourism potential but also helped cement the Club’s position on the global map of SKAL Clubs. The Club hosted another prestigious international congress in 2000, further enhancing its global reach.

Given Bahrain’s strategic geographical location in the heart of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Middle East, the SKAL Club has played a key role in developing the region's tourism industry. For years, Bahrain has been a vital transportation hub, benefiting from its proximity to key international markets, as well as its welcoming culture and hospitality.

The SKAL Club of Bahrain continues to contribute to the development of tourism in Bahrain and the broader Middle East. By fostering collaboration between hotels, airlines, and travel agencies, the Club has become an invaluable resource for industry professionals, playing a crucial role in enhancing Bahrain’s standing as a top travel destination. A pivotal moment in the Club’s history came in September 1991 when it hosted the 20th Asian SKAL Assembly. This event served as a major showcase for Bahrain’s vast tourism potential and received strong support from the Bahraini government. The Assembly provided an opportunity for delegates to promote Bahrain as a tourist destination in their respective countries, spreading the message of Bahrain’s vibrant tourism offerings across the globe.

The SKAL Club of Bahrain meets regularly on the last Tuesday of each month for a networking dinner with members and invited guests, held at some of Bahrain's leading hotels and restaurants. These gatherings not only foster valuable connections but also promote the spirit of collaboration and growth within the tourism sector. The Club is also deeply committed to supporting local charities, institutions, and needy families in Bahrain.
