TV & Movies Releases - August 2025

Shruti Ramesh previews upcoming film releases while also celebrating iconic Bollywood classics that offer a perfect introduction to the genre for newcomers and longtime fans alike.

One Battle After Another
Starring Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio, this follows the story of a former member of a revolutionary group as he seeks help from fellow revolutionaries to find his missing daughter.

Bad Guys II
This is the new action-packed chapter of DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed comedy smash. It follows our now-reformed Bad Guys as they find themselves hijacked into a high-stakes, globe-trotting heist, masterminded by a new team of criminals they never saw coming: The Bad Girls.

She Rides Shotgun
An adaptation of Jordan Harper’s award winning novel, this story follows a girl marked for death. Join her as she fights and steal to stay alive, learning from the most frightening man she knows, her father. 

Materialists
Boasting a star studded cast with the likes of Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal and Dakota Johnson on board, this film follows a young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between her ‘perfect match’ and her imperfect ex.

Caught Stealing
This is the story of an ex high-school baseball phenom who finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters. They all seem to be after him; the problem is he has no idea why. As he attempts to evade their ever-tightening grip, he’s got to use all his hustle to stay alive long enough to find out.

Three Idiots
A hilarious and heartfelt critique of India’s education system, following three engineering students as they navigate the pressures of conformity while pursuing their dreams. The film critiques the flaws of the Indian education system but, ultimately, imparts a more universal lesson about social conditioning, emphasising the importance of having the courage to pursue one’s passions.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
A vibrant and uplifting exploration of friendship and self-discovery, following three childhood friends on a transformative road trip across Spain. The film delves into the themes of overcoming fears and embracing life’s fleeting moments, as each character confronts personal challenges and redefines their priorities.

Lunchbox 
A poignant and beautifully crafted story about an unexpected connection between two lonely individuals through a mistaken lunchbox delivery in Mumbai. The film explores the themes of love, longing, and the complexities of life, all set against the backdrop of the bustling city.

Chak De India
Starring Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan, this film follows Kabir, an ex-Indian hockey player accused of dishonouring his country, as he decides to coach the Indian women’s national hockey team to prove his devotion to the nation. This film explores the themes of patriotism, resilience and teamwork within the frame work of India’s national sport.

Param Sundari 
One to look out for in cinemas this month, this romantic comedy features Bollywood stars Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. A North Indian boy and South Indian girl cross paths and ultimately fall for one another. The film is set against the beautiful backwaters of Kerala and is described as a rollercoaster of laughter, chaos and unexpected twists.
