With the advancement of science, the roster of cosmetic treatments available in the Kingdom has been growing over the last few years. We explore the benefits of some of Bahrain’s most sought-after treatments.
PLATELET RICH PLASMA (COMMONLY KNOWN AS PRP)
This procedure has been gaining popularity in the region as a treatment for hair loss and skin rejuvenation. For hair loss, the treatment is carried out to prevent hair loss or promote new hair growth.
For the procedure, the clinic will use the patient’s own blood which will be processed and then injected into the target area where it is expected to promote healing. Platelets are known to contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area. Platelet-rich plasma is simply blood that contains more platelets than normal.
HIGH-INTENSITY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND (HIFU)
A fairly new but promising treatment, HIFU is sure to be sought after by those who’d like to avoid “going under the knife”. The non-invasive and painless procedure is meant to encourage the production of collagen resulting in firmer skin, making it an apt replacement for the comparatively invasive surgical facelifts.
HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy to target the layers of skin just below the surface with heat, encouraging them to produce more collagen. The procedure is known for facial rejuvenation, lifting, tightening and body contouring. Benefits include wrinkle reduction, an enhanced jawline, lifting of cheeks, eyebrows and eyelids, and smoothing of skin. Patients are known to see a visible difference a few months into treatment and after multiple sessions as recommended by the doctor.
CHEMICAL PEELS
As the name explains, chemical peels involve carefully applying a skin treatment on the patient’s face or neck which will then gently peel away in time. It’s extremely important to undergo this procedure at a reliable clinic or hospital since the doctor will have to thoroughly assess your skin and concerns before the procedure. The peeling generally takes up to 2 weeks after which additional sessions may be necessary.
The treatment is meant to target sun damage, fine wrinkles, certain types of acne, age spots, melasma and other skin concerns.
BOTOX
Apart from its aesthetic uses, Botox is also used to treat medical conditions such as excessive sweating. Botox is injected into the target areas in small doses by trained doctors for the best result. The most commonly targeted areas for reducing the appearance of wrinkles are frown lines, crow’s feet, lines at the corners of the mouth and skin on the chin.
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Having to ditch shaving, waxing and epilating is a boon for many! While laser hair removal is hardly a new procedure, it has changed over time with less painful machines making their way onto the market. One of the most common procedures across the world, Laser Hair Removal, allows you to get rid of unwanted hair following multiple sessions. The procedure works by destroying the health follicle with concentrated light. The best part of this procedure is that it can selectively target the dark, coarse hair while leaving skin undamaged.
