Eid Mubarak!

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting, prayer and reflection, and it arrives as both celebration and renewal. In Islam, it is a moment to give thanks for the strength and patience shown through the fast, while turning that discipline into something lasting: kindness, restraint and a sharper awareness of those who have less. The day begins with the Eid prayer, often performed in large congregations, reinforcing a sense of unity that stretches across neighbourhoods, cities and the wider Muslim world.
A defining element of Eid Al Fitr is Zakat Al Fitr, a charitable obligation given before the prayer so that everyone can share in the joy of the occasion. It underlines one of the festival’s core messages: gratitude must be matched by responsibility. In the Gulf, where communities are shaped by close family ties and long traditions of hospitality, this spirit is felt in open doors, shared meals and the easy rhythm of visiting that fills the first days of Eid.
In Bahrain, Eid carries a distinctly communal warmth. Families gather early, children set out in their finest clothes and the day becomes a gentle circuit of greetings, coffee, sweets and conversation.
Elders are honoured, relatives are checked on and bonds are renewed, including with friends and neighbours from different backgrounds who have come to call the island home.
Across the Gulf, Eid also has a broader significance as a pause point in the year, a chance to reset priorities and restore balance after an intense month. It is festive, certainly, but its importance lies in what it reaffirms: worship, generosity, family and community. In that sense, Eid Al Fitr is not simply the end of Ramadan, but a promise to carry its best lessons forward.
