Child’s Play

Summer is upon us, but there’s no need to languish at home just because you don’t want to get scorched. Bahrain offers some great options to keep the kids and the young-at-heart entertained in air-conditioned environs.

PAINTBALL BAHRAIN
Paintball is a high adrenaline, fast-paced game where participants ‘tag’ each other with paintball projectiles shot at high speed. These are usually dye-filled gelatin capsules that burst upon impact. It’s said to be more mental than physical, since you have to outsmart opponents and not become intimidated by others. The first authorised paintball company in Bahrain is found in Seef and Sitra Malls and provides players with the latest equipment. A minimum of four and a maximum of 30 players can take part. However, on weekends, a minimum of eight is required. Participants need to be at least 10 years old.

LASER TAG
This is another tag game played with guns that fire infrared beams which connect with the special sensitive vests worn by participants. And the game mechanics record how many times each player has effectively shot their opponents. At the end of a short time, that can actually feel like quite a while with all the running, hiding and sneaking up on your ‘enemies’, a winning team is declared, along with the participant that hit the most targets. Laser tag can be a great way to expel some energy in kids, and grown-ups as well. It is an exhilarating experience in a safe and cool environment.

Islanders can partake in laser tag at Ozone Entertainment Centre located at Sitra Mall. The venue also offers bowling, billiards and gaming consoles, and is a popular place to host kids’ birthday parties.

BAHRAIN SCIENCE CENTRE
You do not have to be a science geek to have an interesting time at the Bahrain Science Centre located on the Isa Town road. This venue is a venture of a government authority to promote the culture of science and technology in the country by engaging young people and their families in activities that they can ‘learn by doing’. The centre is open from 9am-1pm and then again from 4pm-8pm on all days except Fridays. A tour of the place encourages young minds to imagine, share their thoughts and be inspired.

WAHOOO!
To have a splash-packed time on amazing water slides and rides, and many other attractions, head to Wahooo! at City Centre Bahrain. This sub-tropical paradise-themed, indoor-outdoor waterpark is the first of its kind in the Middle East and is set over a whopping 15,000sq/m, guaranteeing hours of joy for all the family. A multi-level fortress and the toddler pool offer fun for little ones, while older kids can have a gala time in the wave pool or lounge in the Lazy River. The Mat Racer, Sidewinder, Flow Rider and Black Hole are some of the spectacular rides that cater to thrill seekers, young and old. All the pools are temperature-controlled for a pleasant experience all year round. Guests are required to bring their swim gear and towels or buy them from the onsite retail store.

ARTZANIA
Located in Ramli Mall, boys and girls from three to 14 years can enjoy unique activities under safe supervision in an atmosphere where children are encouraged to be imaginative and creative. The colours, furniture and the decoration have been custom-made according to international standards for children’s comfort and safety. Besides weekly events, the centre provides a walk-in service where parents can drop off their kids at Artzania to have peace of mind shopping while the kids are engaged in fun and learning. It costs BD3 per hour or BD5 for two hours, including all art materials.
