Wellness on the Waterfront

In a vibrant celebration of health and community, Nadeen School hosted Bahrain’s first-ever Wellness Fair on May 1 at the scenic Dilmunia Island. The event marked a significant moment for wellness advocacy in the Kingdom, drawing families, educators, health professionals and wellness enthusiasts for a day dedicated to mental, physical and emotional well-being.

The fair was the result of a collaboration between Nadeen School and The Factory, featuring an inclusive range of activities designed to engage participants of all ages. A standout moment was the Zakham Run – organised by The Factory – which welcomed more than 450 runners across various age categories in a 6km race for adults and shorter races for children.

Executive Chair of Nadeen School, Shanee Puri, explained the motivation behind the event: “We wanted to create a day where everyone felt welcomed and excited to be in community with each other, and where everyone could participate in activities that promote wellness, wellbeing, health, and a ‘support local’ lifestyle.”

Principal James Batts further emphasised the school’s commitment to a culture of wellness: “This fair is a natural extension of our purpose. We aim to prepare learners to shape the world with purpose and believe in creating environments where people feel connected, safe and valued. Think of the Blue Zones of the world – that’s the kind of community space we aspire to create here in Bahrain.”

The Wellness Fair included a bustling marketplace by Market Street, where attendees could explore a diverse array of local wellness initiatives. Activities ranged from Yoga and Tai Chi to Zumba and healthy cooking classes, while expert-led workshops covered themes such as emotional health, nutrition and stress reduction.

One of the day’s highlights was a breathwork session conducted by renowned coach Susie Bower, who shared techniques to improve mental clarity and reduce anxiety. Reflecting on her experience, Ms. Bower said: “It was such an honour to be part of this event with so many meaningful activities and workshops. I was delighted by the turnout and am optimistic about what this means for the future of our children and caregivers.”

Three Nadeen learners were recognised for their achievements in the race: Yara placed third in the female 12–13 age group, Laila Ramadan earned second place in the 8–9 age group, and Maria Soofi took third in the 6–7 category.

The choice of Dilmunia Island was particularly fitting. Designed with a long-term vision to be Bahrain’s wellness destination, the island proved an ideal setting. Mr. Mohammed Khalil Alsayed, CEO of Ithmaar Development Company, commended the collaboration, expressing appreciation to both Nadeen School and The Factory for aligning with the island’s health-conscious ethos.

The event was made possible with support from key sponsors, including Royal Bahrain Hospital, Hawar Resort by Mantis, Royal Life Saving Bahrain, House of Athletes, Pocari and InShape Diet.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting golden light across the island, the inaugural Nadeen Wellness Fair left a lasting impression – one of connection, community and a shared vision for a healthier future in Bahrain.
