Canadian School Bahrain Opens Equestrian Arena

Canadian School Bahrain (CSB), a pioneer private school in Bahrain and the first certified BC Curriculum School in Bahrain, has announced the opening of its pioneering Equestrian Arena. The momentous event took place on December 7, 2023, and marked the first integration of an equestrian programme into a school in Bahrain.

The inauguration, held under the patronage of Assistant  Secretary of Agriculture and Marine Resources Affairs, Board Member and Secretary-General of the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation, Dr. Khalid Ahmed Hassan, and the school Founder, Abdulghaffar AlKooheji, was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including board members, and held in the presence of Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Livestock at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Dr. Ibrahim Yousef, Bahrain Royal Equestrian & Endurance Federation Secretary General, Ghalib Mukhtar Al Alawi and Director of the Media Office Committee of the Royal Federation, Tawfiq Al Salhi, as well as members of the CSB Board of Directors and a number of parents.

This gathering was a testament to the unique synergy between Canadian and Bahraini educational excellence. At the heart of this occasion was the unveiling of the horse arena, stables, and horse equipment facilities, highlighting the commitment to providing students with a comprehensive and enriching educational experience that provides an innovative curriculum tailored to foster global citizenry, underlining the importance of preparing students for a connected world.

A significant focus was also placed on the holistic approach of the curriculum, which emphasises not only academic prowess but also the social, emotional, and physical development of students. This approach champions critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative achievements, encouraging students to explore beyond traditional educational boundaries.

CSB Senior School Principal, Bill Bartlett, comments: “This year’s programme will introduce our younger students to the wonderful world of horses with a combination of classroom and ringside instruction. The elementary grades in our Rookie Riders afterschool programme will study horse care, tack, and safety, leading to introductory riding. While our experienced riders will have the opportunity to practice their skills while they learn about stable management, nutrition, and a higher level of horse care.

In his remarks, CSB Founder, Abdulghaffar Al Kooheji, articulately reflected on the profound significance of equestrianism, drawing inspiration from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He quoted, “The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: ‘Goodness is tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Judgment.’”

Showing the historical and cultural importance of horses, Mr. Al Kooheji emphasised their critical role in shaping ethics, social, political, and military relations throughout history. He highlighted how horsemanship instils virtues such as masculinity, adherence to noble morals, courage in challenging situations, a sense of responsibility towards family and community, and a commitment to high values, including aiding the distressed, defending the weak, and respecting women.

He expressed his vision that “By introducing a global educational curriculum that integrates local customs, traditions, and Arab-Islamic heritage, CSB aims to nurture a generation that is aware, cultured, and proud of its identity,” he says of his vision. “Today’s inauguration opens up new horizons for future generations, fostering development beyond academic excellence and personal growth.”

A highlight of the event was a performance by CSB students, reflecting the rich Bahraini culture and underscoring the school’s role in shaping future leaders of the country.

The opening of the Equestrian Arena at CSB and its programme underscores the role of CSB as a leader in private education, recognising its dedication to setting high standards in educational excellence and innovation.
