Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) stands at the forefront of providing excellent medical education, drawing upon the legacy of Newcastle University in the UK. We look at how its various courses can enable students to gain a world-class education.
NUMed’s Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a five-year undergraduate programme mirroring the MBBS programme offered at its parent campus in the UK. This undergraduate programme has received approval from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and is widely recognised, including by the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom (GMC), Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), Medical Council of Thailand, Maldives Medical and Dental Council, Pakistan Medical Commission, and Mauritius Higher Education Commission.
The MBBS curriculum at NUMed enables students to master a solid understanding of the science of the human body as well as the capacity to research human physiological functioning. Students get a chance to work with academic and research teams to gain direct knowledge of working in clinical and hospital settings. There are also options for them to head over to the UK campus via the university’s campus exchange or intercalated study opportunities.
Additionally, NUMed offers a 2+1 BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences programme that adopts a multidisciplinary approach, providing students ample exposure to theoretical and practical mastery at both the Malaysia and UK campus. For a strong start, its Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences will set students on the right path if they want to pursue a career in medicine, primarily in MBBS or Biomedical Sciences.
